LINKS: Bt CORN Bacillus Thuringesis corn is one of the many varieties of agricultural products that have been altered with genetic modification, a process that has promised enormous benefits in raising production. Serious questions, however, have been raised about the safety of both the process and the product of this modification. StarLink corn, for instance, was limited to non-human consumption. It may have been inadvertantly mixed with other corns and entered the human food supply.

T
his debate, which has caused deep concern throughout the world over the future of genetic modifications of food, has had an ongoing impact on the corporations that have conducted the research and their ability to sell the product. Indeed, the outcome of the debate on the future of agriculture may be profound as well.

The state and federal governments collect voluminous statistics on agricultural production:

The new sciences of genetic engineering have become a battlefield of contending views. The following sites are only a few of the many available on the Web. The bibliography contains some current books on the subject.
