These double crib corn cribs were once part of almost all prairie farmsteads. The horse-drawn wagon could drive into the open bay between the two cribs. Corn--unshelled--was shoveled into the slat-sided bins. The cupola on top provided ventilation, as well as a high point for lightening rods.
In 2000, they are occasional relics of a vanished past. The bumper crop of shelled corn lies on the ground, waiting for space at the elevator and a favorable market.
