This old farmstead retains its classic structure: Lying along an east-west axis, the stock barn stored hay and some grains and sheltered the horses. A chicken house stood, probably just outside the large garden--now a yard. The houseyard itself is protected on the west by two large shade trees.

T
he house is a composite of porches, sheds, and an outbuilding; a smokehouse? a washhouse? On the old farm, laundry would have hung from lines in the yard. The farmstead, now purely residential, would have been workshop as well as shelter.
